BEST OF 2008 part II
well this year was not really "about" albums, although i am an avid music purchaser (and i mean the real shit, in the store or offline, none of this buying the album on itunes bullshit), i did not purchase many albums this year. but i have compiled a list of my faves, purchased or stolen:
note: i am only posting mp3s for songs whose artists were not mentioned in my top 10 songs of 2008 (except department of eagles because #1 album deserves 2 songs posted) to cut down on redundancies

GREETINGS FROM RURAL PENNSYLVANIA!
i love my aunt kathy's house. it is effin gorgeous and perfect and i could live in her kitchen.
so far things are going well with the fam, today we are headed to MY city to see the rockettes, pretty stoked.
then we are eating at Remi, some italian place my aunt and uncle like, yelpers seem to dig it.
in other news, i have been having a lot of trouble sleeping and i don't know why. the other night i thought it was because i drank an energy bev at about 4pm, not that they have ever really affected me that badly before when it comes to sleep. last night is just completely unexplainable though, i watched 3 eps of arrested development on hulu trying to stop my head from going going going...but it barely worked. i fell asleep for maybe an hour and had heinous nightmares of being held up at gunpoint!

but i know i'm still right here, and i know here is still nowhere
The Dutchess and the Duke record has consumed me. There are very few times when I hear a song and within the first 10 seconds I am filled with an almost animalistic knowledge that not only this song but every song compiled with this song into a record will be incredibly and profoundly affecting for me. This song that I heard was "Reservoir Park" and it was one of the only songs hype machine had of theirs. I bought the album on amazon. I NEVER do that. But I had to. I went on just to look at how much the album cost, and I saw the "download this album" button and I just clicked it. I didn't even think about it. I just saw it and I clicked it, and I have not regretted it yet.
They do retro so well, it's not cheesy or patronizing, it's just a part of them. The lyrics are simple but deep, the kind of lyrics that make you think "I could write those" only to reexamine their composition moments later and realize "No I fucking could not!" because sometimes people just know how to put words together so perfectly that every other sentence you write for the rest of your life seems to be a testament to how much you will never write like them/that.
I love this fucking album so much that it is making me angry to write about it right now. I can't explain it by stringing together letters. I cannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnot.
That was 20 n's.
